...after snapping pics, I went & snagged a couple....my wife took over on the cam, & my son woke up & decided to 'water' the sea oats & sawgrass, ensuring the stregth of the protective dunes....

...more global galavanting for the Hynson crew...Sean sent these to me from a couple of month's agos business trip, unfortunately the waves didn't cooperate, but i'm sure the experience was unreal anyway...

...saw these beauties on the surferbb, boards send to Kanoa, a surfer / board distributor in Portugal, who got these from Sean/Mike just in time for the Euro Fish Fry they had a while back.

...In the latest edition of Juice Magazine (surf, skate, art culture) there's a very good interview with Mr. Hynson by his old teamrider Herbie Fletcher & his wife Dibi, who spend time together living, surfing ,& shaping on the North Shore in the late 60's / early 70's, developing the 'down rail' design...a design that subsequently filtered into the hands of Pipe lurkers G. Lopez, Rory R.,etc. , that in recent years Gerry has given much credit to Mike stating '...if it wasn't for the downrailer design, we'd never had been able to ride Pipe like we did...", or something like that. Gotto your nearest book & mag pusher & check it- KNOW YOU HISTORY!!

El Sean, El Shimbawa, El Salvador...

Sean sent these pics to me this morning from his latest trip, El Salvador. Looks as if he made it Shimbawa quiver exclusive this go-round...Shaper of shimbawa's, J. Belik, is an O.G. Sunset Cliffs local from the genesis of the fish board movement, shaping around the same circles as Lis in the early 70's, & was actually on da beach to see Jeff Ching's 1st standup ride on one of Lis' fish, it don't get more close to the source than that. Nice point, nice quiver, i'm jelious....

This is where we scored or best formed waves of the trip, Caldera Jetty, outside of the shipping port in Puntarenas. This 1st day was headhigh with bigger sets warping of the jetty & a-framing, 3 hour sesh with one other local kid out & me & my 2 buddies...this session made my trip. the next morning we D.P.ed the jetty to find it D.O.H. with barrels you could drive a caddilac thru, unfortuately it was a saturday & there was a contingent of 40 boogie's sitting on the peak, not letting us in...we sat off to the left of the peak & counted ourselves thankful of the session we caught there the day prior...

Thought i'd post some pic's of my trip from june...this particular break was in front of our villa in Hermosa, & was pretty 'heavy' (for me at least) every day. I didn't mind the size so much, it was the D.O.H. sneaker that would thump you(putting it mildly) on the paddle back out that I didn't care for...

....I'm back....lotsa stuff kept me from bloggin' up, but i'm back to my old ways, so look for more fun & annoying tidbits. Here's some fresh pics from my trip to Costa Rica 2 months ago...great waves, but it's good to be home with the Fam. Hope you enjoy some of my new crap!
